Renowned for its rich heritage, the Iloilo Strait and riverfronts, Iloilo City aims to tap these resources to realize its vision of becoming a premier city by 2015. City challenges include traffic congestion, preserving heritage structures, flooding, untapped waterways, and the informal settlers living along these areas. In response, the 2009-2020 Iloilo Comprehensive Land Use Plan and Zoning Ordinance has come up with policies to address these concerns through mixed-use development, establishing setbacks along rivers, and providing incentives for sustainable land development. The three priority areas include the renewal of Iloilo riverfront and the coastline, introduction of an efficient public transport system, park-and-ride facilities and the improvement of parks and plazas.
